Online Beginner Drum Lessons: The Future of Music Instruction by Brian Sylvester
How important is it to take lessons when learning to play the drums? I would argue that it is vital- even if drumming comes natural to you. A person may have rhythm, but that does not mean he or she will automatically be skilled in the basics of drum rudiments, for example. But what if you do not have the time and/or money to make that happen? Well, better than just banging around on your brand new drum set until you “get it”, why not take advantage of the Internet with online beginner drum lessons?
I have been playing drums since I was 13 (I’m 27 now), and as I look back on what has greatly influenced my playing, I often think of the many hours spent playing on my own.
I had a regular practice of running up to my room after school, cranking up my stereo, and playing along with my favorite rock songs until the late evening hours. I especially loved the drumming of Neal Peart from Rush, and I would pick apart his virtuoso drum fills and play them over and over until mastered.
But I don’t think any of that time playing along with the stereo compares with the invaluable drumming instruction I’ve received- from private lessons, to middle and high school band, and even watching and learning from other experienced drummers.
However, some beginners do not have these opportunities available. For example, they may not be able to play in the school band, or they just don’t have the time. Drum lessons can also be expensive. I remember my lessons being around $20 or so for a weekly 30-minute lesson.
Today, online beginner drum lessons can be a convenient and cost effective means of learning and mastering the drums. You pay a one-time fee and have access to quality instruction to get you started.
